LET'S LIGHT UP DOWNTOWN

Edmonton’s favourite holiday tradition is back again! #YEGLIGHTUP

November 20, 2021 to January 2, 2022

This year’s Downtown Holiday Light Up festivities in Sir Winston Churchill Square will be bigger and better than ever.

Join us in the heart of Downtown  November 20, December 4 and December 18 to create lasting memories at Downtown Edmonton’s must-see holiday destination.

You can visit the tree any day of the week, but this year we’re programming the Square  November 20, December 4 and December 18 with live entertainment, art, movies, hot bevvies and maple taffy on snow.

COME SEE THE CHRISTMAS TREE

Daily until January 2

Dare we say that the lighting of our holiday tree kicks off the jolliest time of year?

Every year, the Square is adorned with a massive tree decorated with hundreds of twinkling lights sure to inspire oohs and ahhs.

The tree is an annual gift from Millar Western to Edmontonians and generously lit by EPCOR.

EMBRACE THE NIGHT

Daily until January 2

In the Northern Hemisphere, the December solstice is the year’s shortest day, when the sun takes its lowest path across the sky. In this never before seen exhibition Winter Solstice, artists Jason Carter and Bridget Ryan, of Carter-Ryan Productions, explore the significance of winter solstice to Indigenous Peoples through three illuminated sculptures - Grandfather Moon, Mother Earth and Grandmother Sun.

EXPLORE THE ART OF NATURE

Daily until January 2

The Works returns to Churchill Square again this holiday season with a new gateway arch by mixed-media artist Rebecca Pickard, perfect for winter photo ops. Having spent a lot of time in nature as a child, Rebecca’s piece will reflect a deep sense of belonging to the land and an understanding that everything in nature is connected through cycles, patterns and, most importantly, relationships.
